Lobbyist

Role description

advocates and influences political decisions on behalf of organisations and individuals. They play an important role in shaping legislative measures by presenting the interests of businesses, or groups, to legislators. Lobbyists use their influence to persuade lawmakers to agree with their efforts and opinions leading to the proposal of new legislation, or the amendment of existing laws and regulations. Politicians cannot ‘buy’ votes, so rules are regulated regarding disclosures, gift restrictions, and prohibitions. Lobbyists work full or part-time or volunteer.
